Bettas and guppies are both tropical freshwater fish with similar living requirements. Bettas are tropical fish, preferring a warm water temperature of between 78°F and 80°F, while 74°F to 82°F is fine for guppies, so you’ll need an aquarium heater for your tank. Guppies and bettas both appreciate a water pH level in the range of 6.8 to 7.5.
The Endler’s guppy (Poecilia wingei) is a recently described species of guppy closely related to the common guppy (Poecilia reticulata) (Poeser et al. 2005). The Endler’s guppy’s more limited habitat could be invaded by the common guppy’s more extensive one (Poeser et al. 2005; Schories et al. 2009; Lindholm et al. 2005; Nico 2006).
Nerite Snails. Our first non-fish tank mate on the list, nerite snails, are a perfect choice for a tiny 5-gallon tank. This is due to the fact that these colorful little crustaceans take up very little space, do a great job cleaning up the bottom of the tank, and occupy spaces your guppies won’t be interested in.
There are 3 main types of jawed fish that come from their jaw-less ancestors: Bony Fish, Plated Skin Fish, and Cartilaginous Fish. Around 84% of all fish species come under the category of bony fish. 970 of the remaining species that we know of include chimeras, sharks, and rays while 108 are hagfish and lampreys.
Some common and widespread species are often kept as aquarium fish, while other have very small ranges and are seriously threatened. All species in Poecilia are called mollies except for the Endler's livebearer (P. wingei) and the well-known guppy (P. reticulata) which have a distinctly different body shape from the rest of the genus.
One big influencer of a guppy’s lifespan is the fish’s genetic makeup. If the guppy’s parents were long-lived, the chances are that their offspring will have a long life, too. Of course, when you buy guppies from a fish store, you take potluck. Pregnancy. Guppies are not commonly called Millions Fish for nothing!
